Our History
Established in September 2021, HWY 2 Fusion Diner in Monroe has created a name for itself as a local neighborhood favorite with a vision to serve delicious, fresh food and create lasting customer relationships. What was once a dream between friends has turned into a thriving local business.
Owners and friends Marcelo and Humberto had years of experience in the restaurant industry. Marcelo was a cook for different establishments, and Humberto worked as a server. The two worked together at a restaurant for about six years. Between Marcelo’s love for cooking and Humberto’s niche in customer service, they considered opening a restaurant together. At the time, the opportunity didn't present itself, and their dream would remain just that.
In 2017, another fusion diner occupied the current location of Hwy 2 Fusion, for which Marcelo worked. After three and a half years, the restaurant was up for sale in 2021. Marcelo, his wife, Lillian, and Humberto all saw this as an opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream. Deciding to take the leap, they agreed to open a diner together, hoping it would be a family-friendly gathering place that made customers feel at home. The comfortable atmosphere, delectable food, and friendly staff have brought this goal to fruition.
Why Fusion?
The familiar location has had many names over the years. Early on, under different ownership, the space was an Indian restaurant. It later transitioned into a bakery, then a bar & grill, and was finally established as a fusion diner in 2017.
When taking over the diner, Marcelo, Lillian, and Humberto wanted to keep a fusion restaurant, serving traditional American dishes alongside authentic Mexican cuisine. With fresh, never-frozen ingredients and dishes that maintain quality, their delectable menu has something for everyone! HWY 2 Fusion offers classics such as cinnamon rolls, eggs benedict, juicy angus burgers, tacos, crepes, and other traditional dishes.
